Overview
The training of Metro EMS Personnel takes place at the Academy of Emergency Care located in the grounds of the Tygerberg Academic Hospital.
Our Training Department is divided up into two divisions. One is responsible for the training in primary qualifications and the second division ensures that there is a network of continous training and development spread throughout the Western Cape.
Primary training is conducted under the auspices of the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT), Academy of Emergency Care following the signing of a memorandum of agreement.

- Emergency Care Practitioner - Basic (ECP - B)
- Emergency Care Practitioner - Intermediate (ECP-I)
- Emergency Care Practitioner - Advanced (Paramedic) (ECP-A)
- Rescue Technician (RT)
- Flight Medical Program (FMA)
- National Diploma: Emergency Medical Care (N.DIP-EMC)
- Bachelor of Technology: Emergency Medical Care (B.Tech: EMC)
Program Information and Selection
Only personnel employed on a full-time basis by the Metro EMS may be selected to attend the ECP-B, ECP-I, ECP-A, RT and FMA programmes. People wishing to apply for access to the N.Dip: EMC and B.Tech: EMC programmes should contact CPUT for further information.
